SKD is a Margate based artist working in jewellery to create wearable sculptural treasures that aim to inspire and tell stories.
Inspired by nature’s imperfections and the Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi, SKD chose jewellery as her medium to explore nature’s hidden beauty and imperfections by capturing often overlooked details and creating wearable microcosms / abstract landscapes in precious metals, highlighting the processes of time and texture.
An artist driven by the ritualistic process of making with her hands, SKD uses traditional and exploratory techniques to form her wearable organic studies. More recently using found objects including charred wood handpicked off the Kent coastline to create direct castings - pouring molten metal onto the objects and using pressure to embed and capture the texture, preserving the memory of the material before its gradual deterioration.
